| My mathematical interests are in the areas of mathematics education, calculus reform (and particularly the use of computer algebra systems such as DERIVE in the teaching of calculus), and, recently rekindled, abstract algebra. I received my PhD in 1972 from the University of Minnesota, writing a dissertation on the structure of commutative rings. My earlier degrees are from the South Dakota School of Mines and Technology, in 1964 and 1966. I came to the mathematics and computer science department at WCSU in 1990, after teaching 19 years at the University of North Dakota. |
My non-mathematical interests include music, particularly chamber music and opera, reading, particularly history and fiction, and, until recently, furniture building. My wife Dory and I have one son, Eric, who is married. Our nephew Dana is the artist who drew the caricature. |
