TEXTBOOK:
McCallum et.al., Calculus, Multivariable, 4th ed., ISBN
978-0-471-48480-6.
GRADING: Labs
(including the lab exam) —25%, quizzes—10%, exams 1 & 2—20% each, final
exam 25%. A-B-C-D ranges are 90-80-70-60
with the top/bottom 2% of those ranges for +/-.
No extra credit will be possible other than that available on
labs.
Regular attendance is encouraged and roll is taken.
However, attendance is not taken into consideration when calculating your
grade.
LABS: All labs will use MAPLE; you must have access to
this program. All WCSU computers have such access, so you will need a WCSU
computer account by Thursday, January 29. You may obtain an account from the
computer lab in Haas Library. If you have home access to the internet, you will
want to access MAPLE through https://citrix.wcsu.edu. The first time you access this program, you will
need to download material as instructed.
QUIZZES: A quiz will be given near the end of class
each Monday. It will consist of 1-3 problems from the homework assignment given
the previous week. That constitutes 14 quizzes. Missed quizzes cannot be made up. However, the low 4
will be discarded.
If you miss an exam, contact the instructor as soon as possible by e-mail (preferably) or
by voice-mail, indicating what caused the absence, when you expect to be back,
and how you can be contacted. Make-up
exams will be given only under extraordinary circumstances with
documentation. If you miss a class, you
are responsible for getting the notes and assignments.
INCOMPLETES will be given only for students who have
completed work up to final exam time and have a valid reason for missing the
final exam, unless other circumstances have been agreed to in advance.
ACADEMIC DISHONISTY includes copying someone else’s
assignment, quiz, or exam. Involvement
in dishonest or unethical or dishonest behavior may result in University or
course disciplinary action. No sharing
of calculators or use of cell phones, etc., as a calculator, is allowed during
exams.
WITHDRAWAL after the April 9 deadline will be granted
only under extraordinary circumstances. Make sure you contact the instructor
before that deadline if you are uncertain about the advisability of completing
the course. Withdrawals are never given after a completed final exam.
CLASSROOM ETTIQUITE: Chatting with neighbors,
wandering in and out of class, checking voicemail, etc., are distracting to the
instructor and fellow students. Please
do not engage in such behavior. Turn off
cell phones. Repeated violation of these
behavior standards will result in lowering of grade or removal from the class.
