Tom Dewitt Ditto Biography

The name he was born with was Thomas David DeWitt, but he changed his last name to Ditto when he married Beverly J. Botto. He is the creator of many award-winning pieces including both film and video art. Tom Ditto is not only an artist, he is an inventor and teacher as well. He has two patents: one for "Range Finding by Diffraction" and the other for "Variable Pitch Grating for a Diffraction Range Finding System and Concomitant Method and Apparatus". He also developed an award-winning prototype camera that records in 3D. He is currently working on 3D imaging involving a 3D optical process.

Tom Ditto attended Columbia University in NYC and San Francisco State College where he studied filmmaking and received his B.A. in Industrial Design. He received a trade apprentice with Stan Vanderbeek in 1965. In 1969, he became a motion picture film technician for Columbia College and in 1971, an optical printer technician for Film Strip Lab in NYC. Tom is now teaching an art class at Dutchess Community College in New York State.
