Bitemporal Vision: The Sea
a Nervous System
film-performance inspired by the photography of Daniel
Maier-Reimer, with water photography by filmmaker Phil
Solomon. "The Nervous System consists, very basically, of
two near-identical prints on two projectors capable of
single-frame advance and "freeze" (turning the movie back
into a series of projectors, frame by frame, in various
degrees of synchronization). Most often there's only a
single frame difference -- difference which makes for
movement and uncanny three-dimensional space illusions
via a shuttling mask or spinning propellor up front... The
throbbing flickering is necessary to create "eternalisms":
unfrozen slices of time, sustained movements going
nowhere and unlike anything in life." -- K.J.
