Dr. Michelle Mohabeer is a Toronto based (Guyana born) award winning film-maker, film lecturer, writer and curator. BLU IN YOU (2008) has screened at the Society for Cinema and Media Studies conference (USA) and at the Film Studies Association of Canada conference (Vancouver). Prior films include: EXPOSURE, Coconut/Cane & Cutlass, Child-Play, Two/Doh, Tracing Soul and Echoes. Michelle Mohabeer and her films have been featured in the books: Femme Fatales: Independent Women Directors, The Romance of Transgression in Canada, North of Everything, The Bent Lens, (amoung others). Mohabeer's films have garnered numerous awards, mini-retrospectives and exhibitions in over 120 festivals, conferences and galleries worldwide and purchased by over 45 universities, libraries, and galleries in the US, Canada and the Caribbean.Dr. Mohabeer earned her PhD in Culture and Communication (University of Toronto) and currently teaches Film Studies at Sheridan College. She has taught Film Studies at the University of Western Ontario, University of Toronto, York University, and film production at Ryerson University. She has participated in conferences as a presenter/ moderator and filmmaker in Canada, the US and the Caribbean. Currently, she is editing a critical film anthology In Between Spaces: Canadian film and video productions by Indigenous/women of colour. BLU IN YOU will be doing the festival/conference circuit in 2008/09 and is available for visiting artist screenings and lectures. She is currently developing the documentary feature Sex(in)Sun.
