Shelly Silver Characteristics
Shelly Silver is a video and filmmaker whose fresh and inventive works combine street interviews, archival footage, text, and voice-over to play with story-telling by overloading the viewer with details that may or may not be essential. In a sense her work re-creates the visual cacaphony of an urban street, presenting multiple layers of text, image, and movement that must be skillfully negotiated. Diverging from a singular media vision, Silver's work is strongly engaging as it provides a latitude for creative viewers to construct the multiple narratives touched upon or only alluded to in her tapes. In 1992 she received a DAAD Fellowship for independent study and work in Berlin, Germany.
