COM 161 Decision making in groups

Focus: This class addresses both the theory and practice of communicating in groups to allow students to improve their effectiveness in this context. Class readings and exercises help students develop the skills and acquire the information necessary to understand, analyze, and participate in group decision making. Theories and skills learned are applied in the format of group projects and presentations. The course covers a variety of decision-making processes, philosophies of leadership, group roles, meeting formats and types of group structures.
Required reading: Creating Effective Groups: The Art of Small Group Communication, Randy Fujishin.
