Reading: Goffman, Chapter 1, pp. 30-58.

1.  Define "dramatic Realization."

2.  Think of an example of a role or profession where one has to work hard at dramatic realization.  That is, it's not enough to do what they do, they have to look like they're doing what they're doing.

3.  Define role "idealization."

4.  You're invited to a discussion about college life, sponsored by a large philanthropy and held at the offices of a large law firm.  What will you wear to this meeting and how did you decide what you will wear?

5.  Define "maintenance of expressive control."

6.  Imagine you are at a play and there's a very long pause in the dialog.  You begin to thinks that the actor has forgotten the lines.  Then you're pretty sure.  How do you feel?  What do you want to happen next?
