Each of your majors has a preferred style guide. This is the format for submitting papers to professional journals. For example, most of the social sciences and some humanities journals are in the APA style (for American Psychological Association). This style uses in text citations that look like this (Jones, 2004, p 24) and at the end, list "References." Most Literature journals use MLA (for Modern Language Association) and have in text references that look like this (Jones 24) and have "Works Cited" at the end. Other fields use the "Chicago" style, which uses footnotes or endnotes and has a "Bibliography."
Please find out what is the preferred style for your major and use that at the end of your speech outline for the sources you cite.
Assignment: Prepare an academic speech on any topic using academic sources (books, journal articles, through the library or online).
This speech should be outlined on one page, not written out as sentences.
Include a list of sources (bibliography, references, or works cited, depending on the style used in your field).
Academic speech: this is a speech appropriate for a class in your major on some topic. For example, a report on research on some body of knowledge in your field.
Examples:
Applied Microeconomics.
Some Significant Failures in Investment Instruments.
Gender and Non Verbal Communication.
Some theories on media and violence.
Factors in decisions to buy products.
The Cold War and the development of NATO.
Culture and media systems.
Helpful idea: think of a class you enjoyed and look through the text.
