Graded Speeches

You must do at least three; you can do up to eight.

Topics may be anything you like but there must be at least one informative, one persuasive, and one cerimonial.

Hand in a copy of the outline before you do the speech - with time on it.

Preparation

Topic

Is it appropriate and interesting to this audience? (You can specify who the audience is if it's not the class).

Outline quality

Is the outline readable? Can you follow it without getting lost?

Time stated vs. Actual time

10% either side of expected is OK. That is, 30 seconds for a five minute speech; 18 seconds for a three minute speech; etc.

Organization

Introduction

Is the introduction engaging, interesting, and not too long?

Ability to follow

Speech Components

Can I tell where I am during the speech?

Conclusion

Does it reinforce the rest of the speech?

Presentation Skills

Verbal clutter

Lack of "um," and," and other tics.

Eye contact/stance/body

Non verbal cues .

movement

If there's movement, is it appropriate?

rate/pacing

Is the speaker talking not too fast or slow?

Articulation/diction

Is the pronunciation clear and correct?
