Chapter 7 - Linear programming

Practice problems

Here are a few Linear Programming problems you can practice on.

1.    The Wellbuilt Company produces two types of woodchippers, Economy and Deluxe.  The Deluxe model requires 3 hours to assemble and ½ hour to paint.  Economy requires 2 hours to assemble and 1 hour to paint.  They have 24 assembly hours per day (max) and 8 painting hours.  Deluxe has $15 profit each, and Economy yields $12.

2.    A company manufactures bumper bolts and fender bolts.  One machine makes 130 fender bolts per hour and the other makes 120 bumper bolts per hour.  Packaging can handle a total of 230 bolts per hour.  Maximize sales if fender bolts sell for $1 and bumper bolts sell for $2

3.    A natural habitat at a zoo contains a feeding area for two species, I and II.  Each days it gets 120 lbs of food A, 110 lbs of food B and 57 lbs of food C.  Each individual of Species I requires 5 lbs of A, 5 lbs of B and 2 lbs of C. Those of Species II need 6 of A, 4 of B and 3 of C. Maximize the total number of animals.
