Sheldon, Schafer win

Mid Summer Championship.

Hall of Fame Inductions.

The 40-race Roxbury season (shortened from 42 because of inclement weather in February and March) is half over now, and we celebrated in two ways.  We had our annual Hall of Fame induction, welcoming founders Bill and Sue Burley and longtime faithful runners Al Mletzko and Corinne Bellemare to our version of immortality.  It was a lovely ceremony, with music by Rocking Rob.

We also had a race, our annual Mid-Summer Championship race.  Early on, Mark LoSacco and Chris Deming tried to make a race of it, staying with fast-starting Jeff Sheldon for half a mile, but then he started pulling away, leaving Deming and LoSacco to duke it out for second place.  Mark took the silver.

Among the women, Mary Schafer won her 12th race of the season, mixing it up with Mark Zerbe, and finishing well ahead of second woman Cindy Scannell.  After the race, we learned one of Mary's secrets.  She and her family are from Colorado.  She doesn't think the Roxbury courses are hilly.

Safety

Be safe.  Run so drivers can see you, but don't get in their way.  Don't make faces at them, yell at them or make rude gestures.

Some drivers are, indeed, jerks.  Don't try to teach them a lesson.  Indeed, if you get hit, the driver may learn a lesson and come and visit you in the hospital.  Maybe not.  Either way, it's not worth it.

People

Now that soccer season for five year olds is drawing to a close, Mark LoSacco says we might see a bit more of him for the next several weeks.

Pictures

First, the Burley twins.  Then Al and Corinne, being inducted.

    or is it "induced"?

The Roxbury Races are now listed on the Internet both on RunningInTheUSA and on HiTekRacing.com.  For information contact Bob Lewis at bwlnm (at) aol (dot) com, or at 203 240 0162.

Current points standings

Week 20

We're half way through the season now, and standings move in slow motion.  The highest place action was when Mark Zerbe overtook Matt Cappiello to move from 13th to 12th place.  Also, the Levys, back in town for the summer, are all moving rapidly up the tables.

The Fossil added three points to his lead on Joe Mendes, to stretch it to 64 points.  Dan Lynch, 77 points back, is the only other one within 100 points of the lead.  Among the women, Mary Schafer, with 12 wins on the season, has about 300 points on former season points champions Lynn Zuback and Nora Hulton.

In the table below, runners who have not missed a race yet this year are marked with a *.  Rookies, those running their first Roxbury race of the season, are marked with an "R", and people reaching 100-point milestones are marked with a C.  People whose ages were different this week than they were in our data base are marked with a B.  If everything in the data base works perfectly, this means they had a birthday recently, but we know the data base isn't perfect. Other symbols and doodads may be added later in the season.
